Our first post....one of many

In May, 2013 we were awarded a $10,000 bp energy grant to study the potential energy of water being turned into kinetic energy through dams.  One of the important components of our study was to access technology in our classroom.  We wanted to do it through the use of iPads.  Over $7200.00 was spent to purchase 10 iPads and a Bretford cart to house, sync and charge the machines.  The school, through a completely different pot of money, purchased another 10 or 12.

The journey has been long and complicated, but finally on Thursday, I was able to roll the cart into the classroom and see the potential of technology translate into kinetic energy as the room became abuzz with collaboration.
IPads are not a new device in our room.  I have brought in my own four personally owned devices since the beginning of the school year, and the students have access to them daily.  It does teach sharing and turn taking, but with all students having access, the students were all able to begin our first project and the time it will take to complete the work, should be so much less.
We'll be sharing the first use of the iPads with you on this blog in the near future!
